2012 summer-fall trip schedule
The dates in the schedule below represent Saturdays except
where noted. However, a trip may be changed to
Sunday at the leader’s discretion or even cancelled based on weather or other
unforseen circumstances.
Similarly, a destination
may be altered due to weather or access conditions. Please contact the trip leaders several days in advance for
confirmation and registration.

Cherry Creek to Horne Lake (B2) - starting in Cherry Creek area,
hike past Lacy Lake and down to Horne Lake Park and lunch on the beach.

Mt. Klitsa (B2 – C2) – Ski or snowshoe adventure into the
alpine on one of Port Alberni’s landmark peaks.

Mt. Moriarty (B2 – C2) - Trail starts at east shore of Labour Day
Lake; steep climb to open country then up a short bluff to gain the long
ridge to the summit. Expect a
fair amount of snow this year.

Mt. 5040 via Cobalt Lake (B2) - From the divide between Marion Creek and the Effingham River climb to Cobalt lake
and beyond; great views of Triple Peak, Nahmint Mt. and many other
surrounding peaks. Ski or snowshoe trip this time of year.

Wesley Ridge (B2) – a brisk,
steep walk from the east end of Cameron Lake to a Lookout or possibly beyond
to the bluffs, with lovely views on a clear day.

Brigade Lake (B1) – Trail
begins near Sutton Pass and climbs through yew-strewn forest to a subalpine
Lake at the west end of the Klitsa Plateau.

CPR Trail/Lookout (B1-2) - Steep but non-technical route from east
end of Cameron Lake to the lookout patrolled by whiskey jacks; or
Hike down to the
Lookout from the old Arrowsmith ski area and loop up again.

Kennedy Lake – Clayoquot Arm or Sand River (A1-2) – Canoe or kayak to an inviting camping spot on the shore of Kennedy Lake; explore the shore on foot or paddle about this beautiful, tranquil, isolated lake and escape the madding crowd on the busiest tourist weekend of the year. |

favourite destination mountain.

Minna’s Ridge (B1) – swim in one of the idyllic tarns on this
open subalpine ridge across the Cameron Valley from Mt. Moriarty.

Red Pillar (C2-3) –
approach from Oshinow Lake, climbing through steep timber , heathery meadows
and onto the alpine ridge to the
camping spot. Next day, explore
the ridge or climb the Pillar to the flat, open summit. Return home on third day.

circuit (B2) – climb to the Arrowsmith-Cokely Saddle, then traverse below
the east ridge of Arrowsmith, through the debris from a decades-old airplane
crash, down to the lake and climb back up to the Saddle (or the reverse
direction)

Mt. Adder (via Nahmint
Valley) (B2 – C2) – Rewarding 360 degree views from the summit of this bluffy
mountain. A perennial favourite.

humbling, awe-inspiring, adrenaline-pumping experience, but not recommended for the acrophobic. Permission from the trip leader

Angler’s Trail (B1) – a Port Alberni Parks & Recreation joint trip. Observe the salmon run in the Stamp River from this trail which extends from below Stamp Falls to 7km upriver where hopefully another vehicle will be waiting. |

for chanterelles, hedgehogs, and other delectables in proximity to the
original, NW ridge route to 5040 Mtn.

Notes:
- Size of trip party may be limited at the leader’s discretion due to consideration of transportation, equipment, skill requirements, etc.
- It is expected that an offer of assistance toward vehicle costs will be made to the driver when sharing transport.
- Permission to bring pets on trip at leader’s discretion.
- Are you interested in trying something new but don’t yet have the equipment? The Club has some extra ice axes, crampons, helmets, and snowshoes. Contact Harold Carlson or Karen George for more information. Some members have canoes but may need paddling partners; call the trip leader.
Club Rules & Regulations:
- Everyone participating in Club trips does so at their own risk. There may at times be some degree of danger. While the Leader will take reasonable precautions, neither the Leader nor the club will be held responsible for any injury, loss of life, or loss of property. Participants must be willing to sign a waiver in order to go on Club trips or engage in other Club-sanctioned activities.
- Life jackets must be worn while on the water during Club trips.
- Non-members are welcome to try out Club trips. Guests are, however, expected to become members after two trips.
This grading must be considered as
a general indication of the levels of fitness and experience which is required
on outings. An allowance must be
made for poor weather and other unpredictable conditions, in deciding whether
to participate. Extra caution must
be taken with the canoeing and kayaking trips, as the wind can come up suddenly
and make the trip a lot more difficult.
